[HAM] leslie 145 questionsMichael Casino mtcasino at comcast.netSat Nov 1 19:24:10 CST 2003
Andrew; A little history: The older Leslies had single speed motors and they hung in the cabinet exactly the same way with the pulley in the up direction. So the bottom rotor and treble horn spun in the same direction. When the two speed motors were installed there was not enough room on the bottom section to mount the motor stack so it was mounted inverted. These Leslies spin there lower rotor in the opposite direction from the treble horn. There is an exception to this and that's the decorator cabinets, 222, 247, 351 ect. These are two motor versions but spin in the same direction. I'm not sure what direction the newest motors spin. They are a single motor but controlled by electronics to yield two speeds. These motors are shorter than the stacked motors but a little longer than a single motor. Some people say there is a difference and some will say there is no difference in the sound. I personally like opposite direction. Bottom line here is I can't answer your question but since I wrote all this I'm sending it anyway. What do you mean by a bottom cover for the amp ? No matter what you do it will get dusty. Animals, rodents and bugs can get inside them and make a mess. Pet hair in the air will collect in the amp. Just clean it yearly. No point trying to make a clean room out of it. Mike Casino <snip> > 1.) What determines which way the treble horn rotates? > 2.)
