[HAM] leslie 145 questionsWilliam Mark Bristow gracefelch at earthlink.netSat Nov 1 22:05:07 CST 2003
Andrew, 1.) The motors are induction motors and the positioning of field poles to rotor in the motors determines the direction of rotation. 2.) In all 145,147 - 142,122 the top rotor usually turns counter-clockwise and the bass rotor turns clockwise. Hammond did make a few (after they acquired Leslie) with the new "tach" controlled motors with did rotate both rotors treble & bass clockwise - this was quickly corrected. If someone has one of these - it can be fixed by putting a call into Hammond and a tech can talk you thru the necessary steps to fix. 3.) The tube amps all produce a great deal of heat and absolutely must not be covered - in fact it's not a bad idea to leave the rotors on fast (the lower rotor acts as a fan to cool the amp) if the units are going to be on for hours and hours - unused - such as during long church services at times when there is no music - or band rehersals waiting long periods without playing, etc. I've played for years using both tube - and now solid-state amps in dusty outdoor settings - and churches where the Leslies are hardly touched -- very dusty both conditions. After outdoor things - we take an airhose - open the units up and blow the dust out of everything. What determines which way the treble horn rotates? 2.) Let's pretend I purchased a 145 new from Leslie......Which way would the treble horn and bass rotor rotate? 3.) Has anyone ever fitted the 147 amp with a bottom cover to prevent the insides of the amp from getting "gunky/dirty" ? Thanks in advance Andrew _________________________________________________________________ Surf and talk on the phone at the same time with broadband Internet access.
