Linda Dauwalder-Dachtyl on piano, Hammond B3organ and drums, and her husband, Cary Dachtyl on drums and vibraphone, will present a recital TUESDAY, DECEMBER 2, 7:30 p.m., Rosse Hall Auditorium. The program will feature music by such well-known composers as Irving Berlin, Hoagy Carmichael, Oscar Hammerstein, Jerome Kern, Thelonious Monk, as well as original compositions by Dauwalder-Dachtyl. Linda Dauwalder-Dachtyl has taught percussion and jazz piano at Kenyon since 2002. She holds a bachelor of music degree from Capital University and a master of arts in percussion pedagogy from The Ohio State University. She has performed extensively in Columbus and around Ohio with groups ranging from the Pro Musica Chamber Orchestra to the Rick Brunetto Big Band and Vaughn Wiester's Famous Jazz Orchestra, as well as many smaller groups. Her CD releases include "Amethyst Dreams" and the Walt James Band's release "Arrival," featuring her on drums. Cary Dachtyl, who teaches percussion at Kenyon, is the music director and conductor of the Welsh Hills Symphony Orchestra. He runs the Pterodactyl recording studio in Columbus as a sound engineer and producer. He has served as principal timpanist with the Cleveland Opera Orchestra and has played with most of the major orchestras in and around Columbus. Joining the Dachtyls in this concert are Tish Simeral on bass, Bob Frascotti on tenor saxophone and Giles Ponticello on guitar. Sponsored by Kenyon's Department of Music the concert is free and open to the public.
