[HAM] out of tune drawbar?

 I have not tried using a solvent, it is just an idea....the oiling threads
in the generator are fragile...not sure if the solvent will ruin the old
cotton threads.....the goal is to get the gummed up oil, dirt and whatever
else was poured into the TG cleaned out......I really dont want to replace
the oiling threads in the TG....any ideas on what to clean it with?   I
would rather not use WD40...I have heard Hammond reccomended it in a service
update....but i am trying to get gunk out......not replace the old gunk with
new gunk......
